The department is responsible for the care and prevention of diseases of the oral cavity in children up to fourteen years performed both in conscious sedation and under general anaesthesia.
Conscious sedation is a safe and proven method that allows to treat in the clinic children who are afraid of the dentist. Breathing through a nasal mask a mixture of oxygen and nitrous protoxide established by the dentist according to the needs of the individual patient, the child while remaining awake will be quiet and feel less pain.
Children with phobia towards dental care and/or inability of cooperation are offered general anaesthesia. Children suffering from diseases generally require extensive dental interventions and their anxiety cannot be adequately controlled with conscious sedation techniques.
The team's objective is to gain the trust and cooperation of the patients in order to treat them adequately, reserving general anaesthesia for the few and rare cases where an alternative is not possible.
